RESEARCH
Researching each element and common uses
Elements of 2020 is a typography focused calendar based on elements of the periodic table. Each month focuses on the most common use of the element. My group of 4 split up the content evenly, with my illustrations featured in January (Cobalt), July (Argon) and August (Helium). Cobalt is most commonly used in powdering coating metal and is also associated with a bright blue colour. Thus I chose to construct the letters to look like steel, and have the blue paint be in the middle os painting the word. Argon is the main chemical used in blue, green and purple neon signs. The letters curve and glow similar to how a neon sign would. Lastly, helium is one of the most well-known elements, and it’s used in balloons, which I colored yellow for a bold pop against the black background.
